  • Scheduled Flight to Sable early morning – Monday, 6 December.
  • Targeting to be ON AIR by 2100 UTC –(planned frequencies shown below –plus/minus QRM)
We are very excited; it has been a very busy time, but we have been able to put all of the details together; the aircraft has been repaired and the Sable Island DXpedition is back on the calendar. The new dates are 6-13 December. More details to follow on the website.
FRIDAY – October 22:  DXpedition DELAYED

Today, prior to our planned departure to Sable Island on Saturday, a major safety issue was discovered with the charter aircraft that requires repair before we can fly.  As of this writing, parts have not yet been located and it is estimated that acquiring parts and completing the repairs will extend as much as 3 weeks or longer.

Thus, we will be returning to the US to “regroup” and reschedule a return for another try.

Hopefully, a new date can be announced in the near future. Info and details will be posted on this website, as they develop.

Thanks to all for your patience and understanding.

22 October, FRIDAY - 1300 UTC:  (No Flight)
Weather Delay continues in effect for today due to high winds.  The next flight attempt will be 23 October, Saturday - 1500 UTC pending the check on flight conditions on Saturday at about 1100 UTC.

Web site will be updated as information becomes available.  www.CY0dxpedition.com Thanks to everyone for your patience. We are eager and ready to go.  The plane has been preloaded with our equipment and supplies.

Randy - N0TG/CY0

Friday morning update (from Randy at 1120 UTC)

Just spoke with our pilot at 1030 UTC.

He will take another check in about two hours from now,  it appears gale level winds are in the scenario today. Thus, the expectation is doubtful that we will fly.

Having said that, the authorization for a weekend flight is nearly approved, pending, of course, weather.  We'll keep you posted.

Flight is a NO GO
for Thursday, October 21

Randy, N0TG reported that flight to Sable Island today is a NO-GO.

Ceiling at Sable has dropped to 200 feet plus beach conditions for a landing are marginal.  Late tonight an early look at projected condx for Friday will be analyzed.  If we are delayed until Monday, we will extend the "end date" beyond the current schedule of 29 October. Additional update will be provided as we can.

There is a Canadian Government. worker out there they want to get off the island and thus there is a "rare" chance they might decide to go on the weekend to get him......if so, we can ride along (maybe).
BUT...that issue is a BIG BIG if..however it is being talked about.   Otherwise, it'll be in fact Monday likely as next opportunity.

Several "if's"....but I am assuming Friday will not work even though they are watching closely for a window of opportunity.

Charter Flight to Sable; backup Friday 22 October -

On Air 2100 UTC (estimated)

CY0 NEWS RELEASE - August/ September,  2010

Unfortunately, Murray, WA4DAN and Ron, AA4VK have had to withdraw from the dxpedition, due to business conflicts. Gary Bartlett - VE1RGB has joined the Sable Island Dxpedition team.  We are very fortunate to have successfully recruited Gary; a skilled CW operator, active competitor in contests, experienced in handling pileups, a great technical background, an active member of the Halifax Amateur Radio Club (HARC) and all round nice guy.  In addition, a plus is that Gary has previously operated from Sable Island.  Gary makes his home in Wellington, Nova Scotia.  He will be an asset in assuring that the Dxpedition team meets it’s objectives.   Call signs are:  N0TG/CY0,  AI5P/CY0,  and VE1RGB/CY0.  The preferred QSL route is VIA the  ONLINE QSL REQUEST Service.  QSL instructions and options are listed on our website:   www.CY0dxpedition.com

CY0 NEWS RELEASE - May 2010

May 3, 2010 - The Team has set dates to be operational from CY0 between 22-31 October with departure on 01 November. Exact dates are still dependent on weather conditions and other factors.

Note that these dates will include the period of the CQWW SSB Contest. We plan to be active during the contest with emphasis on providing the CY0 country multiplier, rather than to generate a "big score" for ourselves. The "Operating Plan" during the contest will probably consist of one operator on the contest bands and other operators on CW and SSB/CW on the WARC bands

CY0 NEWS RELEASE - April 2010

April 20, 2010 - As we have continued detail planning, it has become increasing apparent that we need assistance with logistics at the take-off point in Halifax, NS.  Due to weight limitations on the charter aircraft, we need to plan a partial shipment of equipment and accessories in advance of Dxpedition start-up.  The Halifax Amateur Radio Club has generously offered to assist in the coordination effort for the shipment to Sable Island via the island supply plane in advance of the Dxpedition.  Thanks to our new Canadian ham friends, they solved a significant challenge that the Dxpedition team faced.

At least one of our Team members is planning to travel to Halifax, NS in August to finalize our charter flight schedule with Maritime AIR and meet with the Halifax Amateur Radio Club members to discuss and plan the details of the logistical support,

At this moment, we are planning our "planning trip" to coincide with the annual Maritime DX Forum in early August. This will give us first hand opportunity to meet and thank these fine folks, as well as other VE friends from across Canada, and DX'ers from around the world who will be attending the DX forum.

For others who may be interested in attending, the Halifax Amateur Radio Club (HARC) invites DXers, contesters and HF enthusiasts to the Maritime DX Forum. This year they are also hosting the Annual General Meeting of Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC), beginning at 2:30 pm on Friday, 6 August. It will be followed at 6:30 pm by a reception and registration. The MDF program on Saturday, 7 August will run from 8:15 am – 5:00 pm, followed by a reception and the MDF banquet.

CY0 NEWS RELEASE - March 2010

March 21, 2010
Commitments of support continue to come in, most recently from the German DX Foundation (GDXF), Tokyo 610 Group, JA1ELY, 59-Magazine (Japan Ham Radio), Mississippi Valley DX/Contest Club, The Danish DX Group, Arkansas DX Association, and . Sponsor logos are displayed on the homepage and on the Sponsor page. Thanks to all of these supporters in helping to make this dxpedition a success.

Also, our thanks and appreciation to advisors and information providers: K1FK, K9LA, and NA5U.

March 06, 2010
The Team is pleased to announce that George - W8UVZ has accepted our request for use of the Battle Creek Special (BCS) at CY0. The is a fabulous antenna which will be used for 160/80M. The W8 BCS Group has provided this antenna for many dxpeditions, including most recently, K4M - Midway Island. Murray, WA4DAN, can attest to its performance during the 1996 dxpedition to Sable Island, CY0XX. This antenna will help to maximize our operations on 160/80M.

The Team thanks the W8 BCS Group for its support of the CY0 DXpedition.

March 05, 2010
The Team continues the detail planning effort for the September/October timeframe.  We are looking carefully at current and projected solar conditions.  Hopefully, we can hit on a good "uptick" on propagation.  AI5P procured a new Elecraft K-3, AA4VK traded in his Alpha 89 for a new light-weight (dxpedition-ready) Tokyo Hy-Power Amp.  The total weight of all equipment is still a concern and consideration is being given to pre-stagging some of the equipment in Halifax, NS and possibly shipping some equipment to Sable Island in advance of the team's arrival.

Additionally, we are contacting our previous sponsors from 2009 (prior to putting the Dxpedition "on-hold") to see if they are able to re-commit their support for 2010. This could greatly help in covering some of the costs of pre-shipments, etc.

- INDEXA has just responded with a re-commitment to the CY0 Dxpedition
- Just received another re-commitment from Twin Cites DX Association (TCDXA)
- Yet another re-commitment; from Southeastern DX Club (SEDXC)
  Thanks from the Team.
